An hour under a tree
Discovering tiny joys of life!
Every Tuesdays and Thursdays, we have a class at the group from 2 -3 PM. It was Data Analysis for the last week, and this week, Kim took drawing classes. Today’s was something else entirely.
Have you ever heard about those classes where the teacher takes you outside the room, asks you to just draw something? That’s what it was. We went out, sat on the field. I think it’s amazing to hear people who love something talk about it. Kim talked about drawing. I loved every word she spoke. In retrospect, it reminded me of the time when Ankita had told me how she feels about dancing. Kim talked about how drawing is mostly about gestures. How we are never satisfied by what we make because it does not look like the object we intended to copy. But, it is the drawing we look at in the end. That is what matters.
It was amazing — we sat out there for an hour. It was peaceful, and beautiful.
We had charcoal, pencils, and black markers. That was all. How do you draw a tree — so full of life, with such limitations? How do you try that your “tree” doesn’t look dry, and lifeless? I tried a few things — charcoal was so interesting! I could smudge it.
There was something liberating about the day, about that hour.
Here’s my favourite of what I drew —
A good, memorable day. I also bought a notebook, to write my thoughts (yes, many scattered thoughts, it’s about time that I tried to put them together.)
Adios, until another brilliant day.
P.S. I went to the cheesecake factory! And I had a cheesecake. Bliss, honest.
